Swiss Mountain Series

The story of the Swiss Mountain Series began in Summer 2020 when hiking in the Swiss Alps I stumbled upon a lake looking like a heart and became curious if there are more lakes like this. Parsing through the Swiss geospatial database containing 25000+ water bodies, I used the shape-detection algorithm to discover lakes with peculiar shapes, the glacier concentrations etc.
The first series - HEART-SHAPED - is a discovery experience based on the collection of images, each representing the real mountain lake somewhere in Switzerland. Not just a random lake, but resembling a shape of ❤. For this series, in collaboration with the digital art platform Objkt we created a custom reveal blockchain protocol. Behind the layers of procedural creative coding, a unique body of Nature is hidden, and the collectors get to decide whether to reveal it to others.
The second series, dedicated to Swiss mountain glaciers, is commissioned by the ETH Glaciology Lab. For this project I am training a custom GAN model on aerial photographs of glaciers to capture and reproduce the process of melting.
